The austrian painter Martin Hochtl about Matug Aborawi

Matug  in Golbaroma  estudio Brusels 2007

Hallo Matug!
I have heard, that you plan an exhibition in the near future.
Will you display new works with the topic of boats and refugees?
Actually it is very interesting for me, that you have chosen this topic for you.
I remember well the time when we worked together in the Art Group "INSIDE".
You have impressed me at this time already with your strong colours and your own unique
painting technique, which you started with your teacher in the academy in Tripolis and which youhave further developed. The glossy and shiny expressions have found strong lines and engravements.
All emotions in your paintings are clear and strong - but when I think - some meancholy has been always inside you and your works. Clear and understandable that with the dead of your father last year and some instable situations in your homeland probably some imprints of transfer and sorrow will be visible in your works, stronger or more wanted than in the earlier periods of your artist work.
I remember that you have mentioned that dead would come up as a topic to be worked out in your oevre in the future.
Actually dead and future sound contradictionally.

When I consider it more deeply it makes more sense - also in relation to the development of your art and in relation to the great respect to the painting colleagues in Libya. Your Thesis about the young(er) art in your homeland will be the standard book on this theme.
So in a historic view and in a philosophic way and - in a very realistic way: our life is a transfer from something we just grasped to something we do not know but try to influence with our forces to the better - to the better, what we dream of.
Just in the moment of dreaming we are moving and we use any means to support our successful journey.

I remember the beautiful farm of your family where you grew up, the seaside close to Khoms - this historic place and the horses and dogs. Nature and purity filled your soul when you lived free in the countryside - a smart boy under olives.
With your engagement in Tripolis you made your first transfers to the artists and to your customers, which actually were part of the
international community at this time.
And now - for how long - you are in Granada?

You work and exhibit there - you have done your academic degrees - ...
So, for some a boat is the means to transfer themselves in a new world, for you it has been always your art which is your tool of
transporting yourself through the space and time and makes you not to flee but to connect people and continents with understanding by the spirit of your work.
Dear Matug, I wish you the best for your new creations and I am confident, that the paintings will be a remarkable next step in your
developments.

Best regards and hug
